Why We People Please

A lot of sensitive souls identify as people pleasers. They say that they do this to avoid conflict with others and to make others happy. People pleasing isn't good or bad, right or wrong. It's a way that we learned to be in the world, otherwise known as an adaptation. What if we could thank our adaptations for helping us to survive and then ask ourselves, "Does this still work for me? If it doesn't, do I want to change it?" As long as we have feel a sense of agency and power over our choices, we can learn to make new ones. Maybe we want to learn to set healthy boundaries with others? Maybe we want to say no more? Therapy is a great place to start learning new skills and shifting our coping skills to healthuer ones.
